According to Prince Harry’s 2023 memoir ‘Spare,’ the King and Queen suggested a surprising change to Kate’s name to avoid confusion with their royal cyphers.
With two prominent C-cyphers already representing Charles and Camilla, they worried a third C for Catherine would cause chaos.
Their unconventional solution? Read on to find out!
Kate Middleton’s Name Changed?
Kate Middleton recently encountered a surprising situation involving a spelling issue with her name, thanks to a mix-up involving King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Although many of us know her simply as Kate, her official name is Catherine, just like most other Royal Family members, including her husband, Prince William.
Can you believe it? This twist highlights the complicated nature of royal protocols. In a revelation from his 2023 memoir, Spare, Prince Harry shared that Kate Middleton’s name once caused a stir with her father-in-law Charles and Queen Camilla.
The King and Queen even suggested changing the spelling of her name to avoid any confusion.
The request was made because there are already two royal cyphers with the letter C for Charles and Camilla. Adding another C for Catherine could cause confusion.
To avoid this issue, they raised concerns about having three cyphers with the same letter.
Prince Harry wrote, “I turned to Willy, gave him a look that said, ‘You listening to this?’ His face was blank.”
Although the suggestion was not adopted, Kate reportedly maintains a warm relationship with Charles and Camilla. Earlier in the year, the monarch was diagnosed with cancer.
Now, after several months, it has been announced that King Charles will soon resume his public duties. Former BBC Royal expert Jennie Bond noted that Kate would find the King’s recovery particularly reassuring due to her affection for her father-in-law and because it alleviates the pressure on her and William.
But is there any internal rift due to this unusual request? Also, did you find this royal protocol interesting? Let us know in the comments section below!
