The 24-year-old singer broke down when she opened up to the talk show queen about her relationships with former boyfriend Chris Brown and her estranged father.

But there were also plenty of happy moments, and one huge surprise during the one-hour special.

Rihanna shocked her beloved mother Monica Braithwaite when she gifted her with a brand new five bedroom home in Barbados.

And of course sneaky Oprah, who is known for thrilling numerous guests on her talk show with grand gestures of generosity, was the perfect person to be in on the act.

To make the big reveal, in true Oprah fashion, the talk show host invited Monica to the home under the false pretense that she would be doing an interview alongside her daughter for the show.

As Monica arrived at the lavish mansion with her son and Rihanna’s brother Rajad and the singer’s aunt, she immediately was taken with the gorgeous abode.

As the group went outside to look at the pool, Oprah told Monica that her ‘good daughter’ had a surprise.

Hugging her mother, Rihanna nearly broke down in tears as she said: ‘Oh mommy you are so cute.

Looking at her daughter, Monica was both confused and concerned.

‘No I am not pregnant! Stop that. “She is like. Oh what is it,”‘ Rihanna laughed.

Before composing herself once more, it was then that the pop star made the big reveal, turning to her mother and in a serious tone told her: ‘I wanted to do this for you for a very long time. You have been such an amazing mother, example, soldier, and you get to walk away with the key to this house tonight.’

Looking around shocked, Monica couldn’t help but cry out.

‘Oh my goodness, Ohhh… Are you serious? Oh my goodness,’ she shrieked, throwing up her hands to her face.

‘Yes. This is all you girl. Look around. Look at the pool,’ Rihanna said beaming with pride.

Monica then realised that the queen of day time television was her very first guest in the home.

‘I have to have a picture of you hanging on the wall. My first guest is Oprah it is amazing!’ she gushed.

Oprah revealed that Rihanna used her grandmother’s fine china as inspiration in decorating the living room in the stunning five bedroom house.

After taking her mother for a tour through the abode, the family and Oprah sat down and enjoyed a glass of champagne.

Monica told Oprah what made her so proud of her daughter.

‘Because she has remained so humble and so close to her family. She is the same Robyn to us. That is what I am very very proud of,’ she said.

And she revealed to the talk show host that she is ‘not yet’ pressuring her daughter to find a new man.

The family, along with Oprah, then joined in as Rihanna made a toast.

‘I want to toast to one, your first trip to my home. Now to her home, to her house. And to family man, to good vibes, to love to happiness, to everybody. Cheers!’ she said.

Earlier in the interview, in vast contrast Rihanna took Oprah to her old family home where she grew up from the age of five up to 16, when she first left Barbados to pursue a career in music.

Allowed inside the tiny bungalow by the family who now lives there, Rihanna and Oprah took a look around.

The father told Rihanna and Oprah that people often come by and take photos of the small home.

Rihanna also discussed a lot of dark moments on last night’s interview with Oprah, especially in regards to her relationship with singer Chris Brown, who notoriously physically assaulted her in 2009.

The singer confirmed to the talk show host that the pair ARE still ‘very close friends’ and that despite leaving her battered and bruised in the road after a vicious beating, she ‘still loves him.’
