There are many rules that the Royals must follow.

These range from what type of clothes they have to wear, how to speak, how to act, and even how to travel. What’s more, it’s previously been reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales run a pretty tight ship at home with their own strict set of rules for their three children to abide by.

Now, the famous duo Catherine and Charlotte have been spotted in a quiet struggle over how to wear the little girl’s hair. Filmed at last month’s Trooping the Colour, it was during this time that a video was taken showing the mother of three repeatedly pulling her daughter’s long hair over her shoulder, while Charlotte kept trying to wear her hair in the front. The video then showed a compilation of scenes where her mother would bring the little girl’s tresses back over her shoulder.

The touching display between mother and daughter delighted fans, with many commenting that it’s exactly how they would act too. Some people questioned whether it was a royal rule to follow, but others felt it was just a “mum thing.” Let’s be honest—mothers do this regardless of being royal or not. If they prefer it a certain way, they’re going to make you do it.

Although they do have the help of a nanny, the royal couple is still very hands-on with their children and are said to love taking part in activities such as bike riding and baking. But it’s not all fun and games for George, Charlotte, and Louis, as their parents reportedly lay down some household rules at their home in Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, including one that must be adhered to at all times. According to a source, this rule is one they are strict about following: there is to be no shouting in the house. Instead, when the children act up, they are sent off to their bedrooms or to the “naughty step.”

The royal couple has a different technique: the sofa chat. Every year, the family takes a trip up to Balmoral in Scotland, where they spend the end of the summer together and away from royal duties and the public eye. It’s become a way for them all to reconnect.

This summer, Charlotte is joining her parents at Balmoral alongside her younger brothers, George and Louis. Former royal chef Darren McGrady, who worked in the royal kitchens for her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and was also the private chef for Princess Diana, Prince Harry, and Prince William for over a decade, has shared the indulgent sweet treat he often whips up for the family during their summers at Balmoral in the Scottish Highlands. It’s a no-bake cheesecake recipe, he said. “In Balmoral’s castle gardens, they have an abundance of raspberries, strawberries, black currants, red currants, gooseberries—all the soft berries. Scotland has the perfect climate for growing these. The royal family would have had those berries most nights, just to take out on a picnic or out to the hills during a barbecue, but at the same time, we’ve come up with new ideas and new recipes.”

Meanwhile, it’s not uncommon for the Royals to take part in some hunting while on this trip, and in typical royal fashion, there’s a longtime tradition for those who hunt for the first time—they must wear the blood of the first animal they kill on their face. Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe suggests that this could be the first year Prince George partakes in the tradition. It was reported that he will join his father on a stag hunting shoot while they visit the Balmoral estate this month. Traditionally, the blood of a hunter’s first kill is spread on their face—a ritual that goes back centuries. Even Princess Catherine has reportedly been part of the tradition, although there was no word from the palace about whether or not this year would be the year that George joins.
