Stephen Curry Admits He Read Every ‘Harry Potter’ Book but Never Saw the Movies: ‘It’s Blasphemy’

The great player for the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry, is unable to weigh in on the never-ending argument over whether the Harry Potter books or movies are superior.

The 33-year-old four-time NBA champion claims to have read every Harry Potter novel, as reported by PEOPLE. “I didn’t get to see the movies, though.”

That’s correct: Curry, who formerly prided himself on being a “math nerd” when growing up in North Carolina, claims to have read “every single one of” the books set in the world of witchcraft and wizardry.

However, he hasn’t had time to see any of the movies based on the well-liked J.K. Rowling series.

Curry laughs and says, “I know it’s blasphemous, but yeah, that’s where I’m at.”
“I guess I’ve just got to have a little movie marathon,” he says to his wife Ayesha Curry over video chat from their home in the Bay Area, where they also have their three kids, son Canon, daughters Riley and Ryan, and daughter.

Ayesha, 34, comments, “I was a Chronicles of Narnia girl,” and her husband erupts into laughter. “Why are you laughing?!”
Ayesha claims she was more interested in science at school, although Stephen claims math was his favorite subject. According to the mother of three, “I was an anatomy and physiology type of girl,” she tells People. “I was fortunate enough that in one of my classes, we even got to dissect things; that was exciting for me.”

The creator of Sweet July also remembers “the most amazing teacher” she had for an economics and civics course. “Are you aware of the particulars of that class? The instructor. I will always remember her for being incredibly compassionate and attentive. That truly stayed with me,” Ayesha remarks.

Ayesha and Stephen, who are both from Charlotte, have lived in Oakland, California ever since the NBA player was selected by the Warriors in the 2009 NBA Draft.

“It’s our adoptive home,” Stephen says. He continues, “There’s such a unique culture here, unique energy, but there are also a lot of challenges.”
The Curry family will also continue to pay for all administrative and fundraising expenses for the public charity, which uses the money raised to fund playspaces and school renovations, literary resource purchases, and student lunch delivery.

Established in 2019, Stephen claims that Ayesha and he were able to “understand how we could truly make an impact” in their neighborhood thanks to the foundation.

According to the athlete, “It only made sense to address these issues head-on and really wave the flag of Oakland, because we say, there’s so much talent here, but opportunity isn’t everywhere.”
In addition to providing substantial financial support, Stephen and Ayesha also kindly donate their time to the Oakland community.

Ayesha remembers noticing that rather than being thrilled to meet the Warriors star, the youngsters at an Oakland public school were more enthusiastic to bring home books. “Oh, we have all these books to give away,” I thought as I passed by a basketball hoop. There will be no desire for these. “The children will arrive, they will recognize Stephen, and they will say, ‘Let’s go hoop,’” she predicts.

“But no, it was really crazy. The children raced straight for the books as soon as the bus opened and they noticed them.”
According to the author himself, Stephen’s 2022 publication, I Have a Superpower, was one of the most well-liked choices made by the Oakland children. “Shameless plug, but a lot of them were excited about it,” he continues.

“Everybody wanted the little satchel that you could take and load up to see how many books they could carry,” according to him. We’re trying to teach the love of reading, and it’s great that recovering that enthusiasm isn’t too difficult. All you need to do is be there and capable of supporting the children.”
