Stephen Curry for president? ‘Maybe’ says Warriors star, who wants to leverage his influence for good

Stephen Curry is many things. The Golden State Warriors superstar is a future first-ballot Hall of Famer, the greatest shooter in NBA history, and a global icon adored by millions both inside and outside of the Bay Area. And perhaps a future politician?

While Curry is still performing well for the Warriors this season and has several years before he will most likely retire, he is already thinking about life after basketball.

During an appearance on CBS Mornings to promote his second children’s book, I Am Extraordinary, which encourages children to embrace their uniqueness, Curry was asked by CBS News national correspondent Jericka Duncan if he would ever consider a career in politics, specifically running for president, after his playing days were over.

“Maybe, I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way that I can,” Curry went on to say. “So, if that’s the way to do it, then – I’m not going to say the presidency but if politics is a way that you can create meaningful change or if there’s another way outside of politics.”

Curry remains very involved in the Oakland community, even after the Warriors relocated to San Francisco. Whether it’s through his and his wife, Ayesha Curry’s charitable organization Eat. Learn. Play., which supports children in the Oakland public school district, or as a national spokesperson for No Kid Hungry, which aims to ensure Oakland children have access to school meals and can eat three meals per day. Aside from that, Curry has been vocal about racial injustice and violence against Black people in America over the years, and he marched in protests during the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020.

Throughout his career, Curry has made a point of being involved in his community and using his platform to give back and speak out on issues that are important to him. And, while he did not explicitly state that he intends to run for president, a position in local government is possible.
