With the King and Kate Middleton stepping back from royal duty during the first four months of the year, Princess Anne, 73, carried out 172 engagements
Renowned for her down-to-earth nature and stoic attitude, the Princess Royal has increased her already heavy workload, according to new research.
Princess Anne, 73, carried out 172 engagements between January and April 2024, taking on 31 per cent of all royal appearances in the first three months of the year.
Of the 11 working royals, the Princess is one of just three who have upped their engagement tally in 2024 compared with the first four months of 2023.
Famous for packing out her schedule to accommodate the pull of royal duties and appearances, Princess Anne’s energy reserves are notorious.
It is said that she performed over 500 engagements last year.
In recent months, she has visited Greece to attend the funeral of King Constantine of Greece, taken a royal tour in Sri Lanka and spent time in Dubai in her role as president of the Mission to Seafarers.
Former BBC Royal Correspondent Wesley Kerr previously told Tatler that Princess Anne has proved that ‘she can be relied on for complete discretion and unconditional love.’
According to Kerr, Anne has a unique combination of understanding – of ‘who and what has shaped Charles’ – as well as a real desire for him to succeed.
This was symbolically represented during her role at her brother’s coronation, which she attended as Gold Stick in Waiting.
Considered a great honour, the role is essentially as a ceremonial bodyguard to the incoming sovereign.
In doing so, the Princess Royal manifested and projected her ability to protect and support Charles through choppy waters.
